A tassel can be belted and can be with or without a collar, but often has either a rigid stand-up collar or a flat collar. This garment originated in the Middle Ages, when women wore it as an outer dress, when it did not impose itself as an outer garment with crinolines. The men wore the cloak like a coat. His sleeves, which were very narrow at the armhole, flared excessively up to the wrists. The cut of this garment has gradually evolved, the sleeves simplifying to take the shape of the triangle described above. The puff can also be sleeveless. The houppelandes were in fashion at the end of the XIXth century and in the XXth century, in particular in the 1960s.
